Hydro Power’ s turbine has been designed specifically to match its environment. It does not block the flow of water in the river, and thus offers no impediment to fish migration or spawning patterns.
The turbine can be either raised or lowered in the water to adjust for varying flow conditions. It can also be sunk to; and subsequently raised from, the river bed. This allows for a variety of installation methods. An automatic levelling system is available as an optional accessory and can maintain the optimum positioning in the water.
Smart Hydro Power’ s 5kW Water Turbine is built around a robust horizontal axis generator system. The unique patented shroud design was developed and refined using extensive computer modelling and hydrodynamic testing, and was optimised to produce its 5kW from as small a volume as possible.
The turbine is capable of producing up to 5kW of electrical power at a river speed of around 2.4 m/ s. Anchoring for floating installations can be achieved with our vacuum anchoring system or by fixing to existing structures. In the event of blade breakage due to the rotor being struck by foreign objects, the rotor blades are individually replaceable at low cost.
The rotor speed has also been specially matched to the best guidelines available for the protection of fish passing through the turbine.
